About the Weavers Way Linen Stitch Cowl Pattern
The Irvine Valley - Darvel, Newmilns and Galston - was once one of the great weaving corridors of the British Empire, its handlooms and then its lace looms clattering by the hundred. Linen stitch is the knitter’s own answer to woven cloth: and is inspired by a weave. It produces a dense, fabric-like surface quite unlike ordinary knitting. So this is a weaver’s way of knitting — a small tribute to the valley’s looms, worn at the neck. It also refers to a famous path from the linen town of Darvel that was taken by foot all the way to the village of Eaglesham cotton mill.
Hi, I'm Tilde, and this is Orry Yarn
I’ve been knitting since I was a child and growing up in Denmark it’s always been part of my life. I first came to Scotland to study at the Glasgow School of Art, and I fell in love with the place the light, the landscape, and the people so much that I stayed. For the past seven years, this shop here in Scotland, and our online store, have been a home for knitters, crocheters, and makers from all over the world
